Building Positive Relationships

Standard

When people discuss building positive relationships, a romantic relationships is usually what comes to mind. However, healthy relationships, are important aspects in your career, your family life, spiritual life, friendships, and your romantic life. The saying, no man is an island, is a good reference point for relationship building. Relationships, are important to our physical, spiritual, and mental well being. Many people suffer from loneliness and depression, because they lack the skills to maintain beneficial relationships in their lives.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, the golden rule is a wise rule, and foundational in relationship building. Treat others the way you want to be treated. This begins with, honesty, integrity, love, compassion, trust, and openness. Respecting those you want to build relationships’ with is essential. Essentially, we should all follow the golden rule.
Next, being consistent in your relationships with others. Meaning and doing what you said you would do. It even means being honest and saying I am not going to be able to do that. Overall, being consistent or true to yourself and your values, as well as to others. It’s keeping up with promises, appointments , and engagements, or notifying others when you can’t meet obligations in a timely manner. It’s also making the effort and taking the time to build your relationship’s by spending time with friends, lovers, and those you want in your network, or your village.

Realizing that there is your inner circle, which consist of people like, your spouse, close friends, and mentors. Your inner circle should consist of  people you absolutely trust, people who have proven themselves through the years.  Your outer circle, consist of acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and people that you have a joint connection with through social obligations. You may or may not want to go any further with these relationships, but you both have a vested interested to stay connected. Lastly, it’s your global community, this maybe your internet buddies, groups with causes, your spiritual community, these are like-minded individuals connected for service to our global community. We support their causes by participating in activities with our physical or financial help. Essentially, we all need each other to meet our needs and the needs of others.

I would also like to discuss the importance of our spiritual relationship. God is our source, we need Him, like air. Our relationship with God is nurtured when we spend time with him, and take the time to listen. His still small voice within you, is the answer to those difficult life  questions, and fills the void in our lives. A relationship with God is like a life river, feeding the streams to other healthy relationships in our lives.
Building positive relationships in our lives, requires time, energy, respect, love, consistency, and compassion. However, the lasting benefits of positive relationships can be like an everlasting fountain of joy that sustains your life.
